Giving Thanks
As all of you know, dogs play an integral part in our culture,
not just as our pets but as working dogs in many capacities,
sometimes losing their own lives in order to save human lives.
I personally have had the fortune to work with several dogs
training to be of service to people whose lives are limited
by illness; these dogs bring a quality of joy to those people
that is indescribable.
The majority of my training experience with dogs has been
with pet dogs, and that is the population I am going to address
now. Many people with "working dogs" and "performance
dogs" tend to develop an attitude that a "pet dog"
isn't just as special as their dogs. Many times I have seen
other trainers roll their eyes and call a dog a "pet
dog" as if it is an insult. These dogs are just as important
in our culture and affect the lives of millions of us daily.
I feel like thanking my own pet dogs now:
Thank
you Rumor, for teaching me that even when you're in chronic
pain,Joy and Fun Things are always just around the corner.
Thank you for comforting me and making me feel so loved, needed
and special.
Thank
you Maggie, for teaching me belief in myself, for giving me
the honor of learning how to train for competition with such
an enthusiastic and talented partner, and for leading me to
a new world of understanding and teamwork.

Thank you Snap, for presenting fresh challenges
and for bringing the vitality, wonder and bounce my
life needed when you came into it.
Thank you Gordon, for leading me to my true path
in life, which is to help dogs who feel like you did
when they rescued you.
Thank you. I love you.
