FOR STRONGER POLICING & LEGISLATION
The Animal Welfare Project will work closely with government authorities.  Our interest is to increase budgets in order to provide Humane Police squads, plus work with legislators to support laws that will protect our animals.

WHAT LAWS DO WE WANT TO CREATE?

There are a variety of animal laws that we desperately need to create. While such laws are recognized by the average person to be necessary, and often available in many other States, Pennsylvania in particular remains lagging far behind the nation when it comes to animal abuse.

This is often because of the strong vote of Agriculture and Farming interests. That vote regularly puts politicians in office. As a result, farmers don’t want to be regulated, and they have the ear of politicians. This tradition allows puppy mills to flourish in Amish country, since Tourism dollars are prolific. It also provides a hidden path for dispatching Amish horses and Race Horses (and even your child’s favorite camp pony!). They head off weekly to be slaughtered for human food, since both are entwined with the Department of Agriculture.

Bad behavior is rampant and arrogant, since there is political protection. Sometimes, no reasonable excuse exists - other than people have gotten away with bad behavior for so long, they don’t see any reason to be humane. They often do not act safely or in a non-abusive manner towards animals, or even the general public. The public has no recourse. Complaints get deflected in a planned manner.

With those thoughts in mind, here is the “short list” of what is on our plate:

ALREADY COMPLETED
Banned double-decker trucks in Pennsylvania for all horses

Increase penalty for animal abuse to 2 year jail term

CURRENTLY NEED YOUR SUPPORT
Protection for animals locked in hot & cold cars

STILL NEED TO ACCOMPLISH
Protection for animals in pick-up truck beds (while truck is moving)
Protection from abuse orders
Restriction on length of time shelters are required to keep animals that are the subject of pending cruelty cases.
